LJCMC Graduate Medical Education

Welcome

Welcome to the Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center (LJCMC)
Internal Medicine Residency Program.  LJCMC has been training housestaff from the Ochsner Clinic Foundation and LSUHSC for 30 years. We proudly started our own “Internal Medicine Residency Training Program” on July 1, 2008.  Our primary purpose is to train internal medicine residents under the direct supervision of full time faculty and to provide quality medical care to the patients of South Louisiana.  LJCMC is located in Houma, Louisiana, just 57 miles from New Orleans.

We currently have the following fellowship and residency programs training at LJCMC:

Ochsner Clinic Foundation

OB/GYN, Internal Medicine, Orthopedics, General Surgery

Ochsner Clinic Foundation/ LSUHSC New Orleans

Ophthalmology (Combined Program)

LSU School of Dentistry

LSUHSC New Orleans

Internal Medicine/Emergency Medicine (Combined program), Family Practice

LSUHSC New Orleans

Physical Medicine & Rehab, Cardiology

LSUHSC New Orleans

Emergency Medicine, Gastroenterology and Hepatology

LJCMC was established in 1978 and now, as one of the seven LSU Hospitals managed by the Health Care Service Division, participates in Disease Management within the HCSD Disease Management Programs in Heart Failure, Diabetes, Asthma,
HIV-AIDS, Cancer Screening, Smoking Cessation, Chronic Kidney Disease, Hypertension, and Obesity. It is also home to an outstanding Diabetes Education and Wellness program.  Housestaff will participate in Disease Management and Administrative Activities.

Our internal medicine program will have 8 house officers in each class for a total of 24 in our three year program.  The program will provide each resident with a rich inpatient experience with subspecialty rotations in all the medicine fields and specialties outside of medicine.  Each resident will have their own panel of patients followed in our outpatient clinics.  Other ambulatory experiences will include neurology, dermatology, ophthalmology, ENT, urology, gynecology, geriatrics and adolescent medicine. We participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). So contact us for any questions and updates and we look forward to sharing with you our new and exciting program.
