Baton Rouge (March 4, 2008) -- Of the nearly 10,000 deaths of motor-vehicle passengers 8 to 17 years old studied by researchers at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, more than half (54.4 percent) were riding with a driver under age 20; nearly two-thirds were unrestrained; and more than three-quarters of the crashes occurred on roads with posted speed limits above 45 miles per hour. NEW ORLEANS - One of the world's leading design firms is partnering with Louisiana architects known for their healthcare expertise to form the architectural team for the new Louisiana State University Hospital in New Orleans, state and university officials announced today at news conference at the LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans. A joint venture of Blitch Knevel Architects of New Orleans and NBBJ of Seattle was selected by the Division of Administration to plan the 484-bed hospital to be built on a 37-acre tract of land in downtown New Orleans. The team selected to design the new LSU Hospital in downtown New Orleans will be announced Monday at a news conference at the LSU Health Science Center. Announcement of the design team is another major step in construction of the new academic teaching facility that will replace the old Charity Hospital, which was badly damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
