The American Nurse

New Orleans The American Nurse Project, which includes a website and soon-to-be published book of photographs, interviews and biographies of nurses throughout the nation, features eight nurses from the Interim LSU Public Hospital.

Now available for viewing, the website, americannurseproject.com, contains video interviews with all of the nurses who participated in the project, including from ILH Angela Davis-Collins, RNC; Gretchen Delo, RN; Bryan Fagot, BSN, RN; Julie Newman, RN; Goldie Baker-Huguenel, RN, NCBF; Deborah Nettles, CNS, FNP-C; Keithen Potts, BSN, RN; and Colleen Lemoine, MN, RN-BC, APRN, AOCN.

The healthcare stories and photos of Baker-Huguenel, Nettles, Newman, Potts and Lemoine will appear in the book, The American Nurse. Lemoine's photo will also grace the front cover. To be published by Welcome Books and distributed by Random House, The American Nurse will be available for purchase in October.

With interviews of nurses from 28 institutions, including the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, in 10 states and Washington, D.C., the project attempts to portray the vital role nurses play as healers in the daily delivery of healthcare. Nurses discuss issues such as diabetes, education, end-of-life, obesity, paperwork, poverty, technology, the nation's healthcare system and choosing nursing as a profession.
