Lake Charles W. O. Moss Regional Medical Center, in Lake Charles, La., completed its fifth year participating in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life with fundraising efforts of the 30-member team bringing in $5,668.

The Moss Relay Team held raffles for Easter, LSU, Valentine's Day, and Mother's Day baskets. Relay Team members donated items for the baskets, such as candy, decorative platters, candles, jewelry, purses, bath products and stuffed animals. Rounding off the fundraisers was a Silent Auction of house plants, a painting by a local artist, access to a three-month parking space at Moss, household items and gift certificates from restaurants and retail outlets. The Moss Regional Service Auxiliary also held a stuffed potato lunch sale.

The project's success was due to the generosity and compassion of Moss employees and their passion to help find a cure for cancer. "Most people participate in the relay because cancer has affected our lives in such a way that we feel compelled to stop this disease," said Dianne LeBlanc, RN, relay team leader at Moss. "Our experience with cancer has transformed us into warriors, and we will not stop until we find a cure."

The Relay Team members offer a special thank you to the patients, families, volunteers and employees of Moss for their support in an effort to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
