1937	Governor Richard W. Leche appoints Mrs. Lallie Conner Kemp to the State Hospital Board.
1938	On August 13, Florida Parishes Charity Hospital holds its groundbreaking ceremonies.
1939	On August 15, Florida Parishes Charity Hospital opens in Independence, Louisiana, with Dr. Alfred L. Lewis of Amite, Louisiana, as its first administrator and medical director.
1943	In November, Lallie Kemp dies.
1952	Voters elect Nicholas Cefalu, Sr. as state representative for Tangipahoa Parish.
1954	Cefalu turns the first spade of dirt at the groundbreaking ceremony that changes the name of the Florida Parishes Charity Hospital to the Lallie Kemp Memorial Hospital.
1980	Lallie Kemp Memorial Hospital loses its accreditation.
1981	Jonathan Roberts and Tom Landry appoint Dr. Charles Cefalu as medical director of the hospital.
1982	In December, the professional services contract between Tulane Medical Center and the hospital is approved.
1989	The hospital faces downsizing under Governor Buddy Roemer’s administration. The community rallies together and organizes a “Save Lallie Kemp” Committee.
1994	On July 6, Lallie Kemp Medical Center holds a rededication ceremony in honor of its namesake.
1997	LSU staffs the medical center with civil service, private sector and LSU physicians.
2005	Lallie Kemp Medical Center becomes a Critical Access Hospital (CAH)

LKMC is a Platinum Level Award Winning Facility

Lallie Kemp Medical Center received the Platinum Level 2007 Louisiana Hospital Quality Award, presented by Louisiana Health Care Review, Inc. (LHCR), the Medicare quality improvement organization for Louisiana. The award recognize hospitals for improving the quality of health are they provide for their patients.

Lallie Kemp Medical Center is one of only 10 hospitals in Louisiana to receive the Platinum Level Award. “Louisiana Health Care Review is pleased to recognized these LSU hospitals for achieving measured improvement in patient care. More importantly, we know that utilizing proven standards of care can save lives, and we applaud the work of these hospital teams in their dedication to quality patient care for the people of their community,” said LHCR Chief Executive Officer Gary Curtis.

The Hospital Quality Award honors Louisiana hospitals that successfully implement quality initiatives directed toward improving patient care in the hospital setting. This is the third year that LHCR has presented the awards, recognizing facilities that are actively engaged in improving care in one or more of the following areas: acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, pneumonia, or surgical care.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have designated the clinical topics measured for the awards as national health care priorities. Staff members from the hospitals have been working with quality improvement specialists from LHCR and with HCSD disease management staff to use proven, evidence-based practices to improve care for their patients.
