cenla medication access program
Danny Jackson, Pharm.D., is Director of Pharmacy at HPLMC and oversees the Central Louisiana Medication Access Program. CMAP has been providing
medication assistance and education to the rural poor in the community since 2001.
The program serves patients who use HPL’s outpatient clinic at England Airpark. Patients receive prescription drugs for a variety of chronic conditions, paying only a nominal processing fee and receiving counseling about their medications by a pharmacist.
The medications are funded through the program and through various pharmaceutical companies’ medication assistance programs.
The program has enrolled well over 7,000 patients and the pharmacy averages 550 prescriptions per day.
Essentially, the CMAP has been able to provide badly needed prescription medications and counseling to needy patients in a rural environment at very little cost to them. The effects of the program also include decreases in Emergency Room visits and admissions.
