In 1994, the federal government closed the England Air Force Base in Alexandria. HPLMC secured funds to acquire the base hospital to meet the increased demands of its ambulatory care programs. Today, the England facility serves approximately 80 to 85 percent of the outpatients. This acquisition, a major accomplishment for the hospital, enabled HPLMC to operate more efficiently.
