LSU Health Women's Clinic Moves to New Location

Baton Rouge The LSU Health Women's Clinic is now seeing patients in its new location at 500 Rue de la Vie, Suite 414, in the Physician's Office Building, next to the new Woman's Hospital.

The clinic is an important part of the LSU Health Sciences Center Baton Rouge OB/GYN Residency Program. Sixteen residents receive training at the clinic. Woman's Hospital cosponsors the program. Eight residents with the Baton Rouge General Hospital Family Practice Residency Program also receive training in the clinic. Residents will now have easy access to patients at Woman's Hospital.

"This public/private partnership benefits our patients, staff and graduate medical education programs," said Dr. Kevin Reed, associate dean, LSU Health Baton Rouge. "Woman's Hospital will offer inpatient obstetrics for our patients and allow our residents to continue their training."

Dr. Briana Wellington is the LSU residency program director. Michelle Lewis is the RN clinic supervisor.

The clinic has 18,000 outpatient visits annually.

With 6,980 square feet, the clinic has 12 exam rooms, two ultrasound rooms, treatment room and an antenatal room for fetal non-stress tests, biophysical profiles and preeclampsia evaluations. A conference room and offices for physicians and residents adjoin the clinic. LSU is leasing the space.

The clinic has 14 staff physicians including specialists, five LPNs, four RNs, four nursing assistants, two hospital admissions technicians, an ultrasound technician, RN clinic supervisor, nurse practitioner, nurse mid-wife, medical assistant and three clerical staff.

LSU Women's Health Services at the clinic provides pap smear, breast cancer screening, STD screening, prenatal care for low- and high-risk obstetrics, contraceptive counseling and management, pre-op and post-op care for GYN surgery, and treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding, fibroids, ovarian cysts, overactive bladder, pelvic organ prolapse and limited services in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

LSU will continue to provide GYN-oncology services at the LSU North Baton Rouge Clinic.

The LSU Women's Clinic hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Friday. To make an appointment, call 225.358.4853.
