dedication, mission, vision The mission of Earl K. Long Medical Center is to provide quality care to residents of the service area, regardless of their ability to pay; to serve, through affiliation with the LSU School of Medicine, as a teaching hospital for physician education; to support training in nursing and allied health care professions; to support the community through health education and preventive services; and as a public hospital, to assure the public’s trust through prudent management of financial and human resources.
The medical center has several outpatient services in areas that include women’s health, family practice, internal medicine, surgery, orthopedics, oral surgery, HIV, pediatrics, dermatology, rheumatology, and other subspecialty clinics. Inpatient services are in the areas of emergency, obstetrics, internal medicine and surgery. Services are also provided to incarcerated persons from the area prisons, jails, and correctional facilities. Additional clinic services are provided through LSUHSC-EKLMC outreach clinics, staffed by LSUHSC-EKLMC (to provide primary medical care services), the North Baton Rouge Community Center (NBR clinic), the Leo S. Butler Community Center (SBR clinic), and the LSU-MID-CITY clinic, located on North Foster Drive. Earl K. Long Medical Center is accredited by the regulatory agencies Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals (JCAHO) and CMS (Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services). The hospital must be accredited by these agencies to maintain its self-generated funding sources. A portion of remaining accreditation is achieved by complying with in-service education requirements that mandate that all employees participate on a regular, documented basis. CORE VALUES In order to ensure a healthier community, Earl K. Long Medical Center has adopted the core values of access, advocacy, respect, knowledge, excellence, and quality as the roots of our organizational philosophy. ACCESS to care for all citizens in the community regardless of their RESPECT of patients’ personal values and belief systems. ADVOCACY speaking up for those who lack the resources to speak for KNOWLEDGE providing necessary information that allows patients to make EXCELLENCE in the educational environment of all physicians, nurses, and QUALITY do the right thing; in the right place; at the right time; for all |
