Our History
Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center (LJCMC) opened its doors in 1978 as
a teaching hospital providing clinical training to medical students,
physicians, and allied health care personnel. LJCMC is a member of the
Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center - Health Care Services
Division state hospital system. The eight member hospital system provides
training and healthcare services to the underinsured population in the
state of Louisiana. The hospital is fully accredited by the JCAHO and is presently licensed for 147 beds. LJCMC is
a full service institution for inpatient services and offers extensive
outpatient services as well. The institution is contracted with South
Louisiana Medical Associates (SLMA), a corporate arm of The Alton
Ochsner Medical Institution, for physician services and medical
training.
Chabert Medical Center is ranked as one of the top ten employers in Terrebonne Parish. Between LJCMC and SLMA, the hospital employs over
1,000 individuals in the region and is responsible for contributing
approximately $65 million dollars in revenue to the local economy. In
recent years, our healthcare professionals have attained national
recognition in numerous areas of expertise. The quality of healthcare
services in Terrebonne Parish is among the best in the country. LJCMC is
dedicated to promoting education and prevention techniques to assist
patients in becoming more knowledgeable about their treatment options.
The hospital strives to continually meet the ever changing healthcare
needs of the diverse population in our community.
