university medical center
University Medical Center at Lafayette is a 117 bed acute care hospital located at Lafayette, La. In addition to the primary care services, Family Practice and Internal Medicine, University Medical Center offers Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology and Interventional Radiology. Other services include: Orthopaedics, ENT, General Surgery, Infectious Disease and OB/Gyn. Since the closure of various hospitals in New Orleans in August, the hospital has acquired the services of a transplant surgeon. Renal and pancreas transplants are performed on appropriate candidates. The LSU interventional cardiology department also relocated to UMC. At the present time, the only interventional cardiology services in the HCSD hospitals are performed here. As a result, UMC has become a referral center for the other hospitals in the system.
UMC accepts Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance and self pay patients. Under certain criteria, patients may qualify for free care for their services.
